Tonight, I'm not
going to bury the lead on you. The real story is that Robert
F. Kennedy Jr. is in serious need of a dictionary.
This past January, he wrote a blog entry in which he called
me, quote "CNN's chief corporate fascism advocate" for
being, what he called, a stubborn holdout about the
existence of global warming.
That was flattering, especially coming from a Kennedy, but
there's one small problem: It's not true. I've never denied
that the earth has warmed point seven degrees Celsius in the
last hundred years, I've only questioned why -- and what we
should do about it. A couple of weeks after that comment,
the Washington Post called RFK Jr. and asked him exactly
what I said to prompt that response. He replied that he
recalled me voicing doubts about global warming.
Now, I've never
been blessed with first-hand courtroom experience like RFK
Jr. was after his 1983 arrest for possession of 183
milligrams of heroin, but vaguely "recalling" something
doesn't sound like good enough evidence to publicly label me
a Fascist.
But hey, there's nothing we Fascists love more than freedom
of speech, so I pretty much let that one slide.
Unfortunately, Rob just couldn't keep the pie hole shut.
Here he is giving a speech at a Live Earth concert this past
Saturday...
"And so I am going to tell you this, that the next time you
see John Stossel or Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh or Sean
Hannity --- these Flat Earthers, these corporate toadies,
lying to you, lying to the American public, and telling you
that global warming doesn't exist --- you send an email to
their advertisers and tell them that you are not going to
buy their products anymore."
While you're writing those emails to our advertisers, maybe
you could also write to Robbie and ask him why he was
against the plan to build clean-energy wind farms in the
ocean off Cape Cod.
Could it be that Mr. Environmentalist didn't want his
precious Cape view ruined? Nooooo, that would be hypocrisy
and he's a Kennedy, after all. But if you think that's bad,
then buckle up because Robert's about to be the next Kennedy
to drive off a bridge into the deep end. Listen to how he
summed up the views of people like me...
"This is treason and we need to start treating them now as
traitors."
I'm no big-time lawyer like he is, but I looked up the
punishment for treason in the U.S. code. It's pretty clear:
imprisonment for at least 5 years along with at least a
$10,000 dollar fine...ORRRR, execution.
I was curious about which one of those punishments Junior
had in mind for me, so we faxed him a letter today asking
for his ruling. We didn't hear back in time for today's
show, but I'm sure that Rush, Sean and John Stossel are all
as nervous as I am about our fate. I'll keep you posted,
but if I'm missing tomorrow then I think you have your
answer.
