If
I didn't know better, I might actually be naïve enough to
believe that terrorism would be a bi-partisan issue.
Terrorists attack us -- that's bad. We stop a terror attack
-- that's good. That's not politics, that's common sense.
But not anymore; not in this country and not with this
media. The Real Story is that you can now find someone
who's willing to go on television to disparage anything or
anyone. You show me the story, and I'll show you the
critic.
On Tuesday -- the day the FBI busted up a terror group in
New Jersey that was in the final preparations for a deadly
attack on Fort Dix...MSNBC "journalist" Keith Olbermann went
on the air with this (click the link to the right to play
the video clip).
Six morons, huh Keith? Is that really what we've come to?
We can't even take one night to applaud law enforcement or
the FBI for protecting us -- and probably saving lives --
without launching into the insults and politics? I have an
idea...how about I keep this video clip on file until the
next time we're attacked. Then you'll start blasting people
for not being able to prevent the attack, and I'll play the
clip to show what a hypocrite you are.
Let's assume you're right and these guys were idiots. Are
you saying that only brilliant people can cause death and
destruction? I bet the people in Oklahoma City, Littleton,
Colorado and Blacksburg, Virginia would have something to
say about that.
I have to tell you...I know Keith Olbermann likes to say
that he's not a liberal or a Democrat...but his audience
undoubtedly is. So let me ask them directly: is this really
the way you feel? Is this honestly what your great party --
a party that has stood for hard work, values and compassion
has become?
Keith, maybe you're right -- maybe you're really not a
Democrat...because I don't believe this really does
represent who they are...and, I know for a fact that this
isn't what any American, no matter their politics -- stands
for.
This story isn't about politics, it's about how powerful the
public is when it comes to protecting this country. There
are millions more of us than there are of all the FBI, CIA,
DHS and ATF agents combined and we -- the public -- are the
best, and sometimes only, defense against terrorism.
Remember, if it weren't for one alert Circuit City employee,
we might be talking about a completely different situation
right now.
But the Real Story is that there are people and groups
within this country working hard to make sure that the
public keeps their collective mouths shut. Although their
arguments are usually disguised under the thin veil of
racism and civil rights, the reality is that groups use
these tactics to put us all on the defensive. No one wants
to be called a racist, or be accused of discrimination, so
we're scared into silence.
Now, before the emails start rolling in...I'm not talking
about real racism and real discrimination. Those absolutely
exists and we already have laws in place to deal with the
offenders. What I'm talking about are the situations like
the Imams on the plane who were acting suspiciously like the
9/11 hijackers; situations where reasonable people make
reasonable judgments based on what they're seeing.
But what message does it send when those people are sued as
a result of those judgments? What if this hero from Circuit
City had been wrong and these guys he turned in were just
messing around? Wouldn't the ACLU and groups like CAIR be
holding press conferences right now claiming discrimination
and threatening lawsuits? If you don't think so, then Keith
Olbermann would probably have a technical term for you:
"moron."
We can't have it both ways. When it comes to public safety,
either we put reasonable vigilance first, or we want to
cater to every person who plays a discrimination card to
further their agenda. Considering that one of those options
probably just saved an untold number of lives, I think the
choice is pretty clear.
