Last night I told
you, to quote the great Tim Robbins, that: "a chill wind is
blowing through this country." Dennis Kucinich believes that
the recent cancellation of Nevada's presidential debate,
quote, "smacks of manipulation" and I couldn't agree with
him more. Brrrrr, did you feel that wind?
But you'll never guess who's doing the manipulating...the
Real Story is that it's the Democratic National Committee.
Back in August, they decided that Iowa and New Hampshire
were wielding a little too much power in the primary
process, so they pushed through a new calendar that moved
both the Nevada and South Carolina primaries up to late
January.
There's just one problem: they forgot about "primary envy."
Other states, like California and Michigan, don't want to be
left out -- so now they're trying to move up their primaries
as well.
In all, as many as 23 states, making up at least 50% of the
delegates, may end up choosing their candidate by -- ready
for this -- February 5th! Last time around, "Super Tuesday"
didn't happen until March...and it only included 10 states.
Some say it's the single biggest change ever to the
Presidential election cycle. But what does it mean? Simple:
well-known, well-funded candidates are going to have an
enormous advantage. The potential that some dark horse
outsider rides in at the last minute and catches fire is
virtually zero.
So that brings us to: why? Why would the DNC be in favor of
this? Who's got the name recognition and the bankroll to
benefit from this change the most?
Say it with me...."Hillary." The Clinton's have a lot of
chips left to play with the Democrats and I believe Hillary
just cashed in the first.
But now, in the irony of all ironies, so many states are
trying to move up their primaries that Iowa and New
Hampshire may turn out to have even MORE power and influence
than before. Thanks to the DNC, the whole thing is a
disaster right now. Oh, can you hear that? It's the founding
fathers trying to get out of their graves and finally smack
some sense into these political parties.
