GLENN BECK PROGRAM
BEGIN TRANSCRIPT
GLENN: All right.
Now, just to show you how fair and biased I am because I am
biased, I'm a conservative but I try to be fair. And to be
fair we've got to talk about another story that's coming out
of Houston, Texas. Let me get my friend Pat Gray on, does
mornings at KSEV. Pat, this is an outrageous story with
Halliburton.
GRAY: Yeah. Oh, it's incredible, incredible. First of all,
I'm a little surprised that you are besmirching bloggers.
Are you aware of what you need to do to become a blogger?
GLENN: Yeah.
GRAY: You have to have a computer and a keyboard and
Internet access. So I'm a little surprised at your attitude.
GLENN: Well, not everybody has Internet access and if we
could get somebody like Hillary Clinton in, everybody would.
GRAY: See, that's the thing.
GLENN: It's a basic human right.
GRAY: The KBR situation is unbelievable. There's a young
woman from Houston who went with -- this was when
Halliburton and KBR were part of the same company. They've
divested themselves of each other since. But she went as a
contractor to Iraq and the first or second day, I mean, it
was right after she got into the green zone, she was
brutally raped. First of all, she was drugged.
GLENN: Yeah, she was drugged. And when she woke up, she had
bruises all over her, she had been --
GRAY: She was bleeding.
GLENN: Yes, she was vaginally and anally raped and
apparently by several men for an extended period of time.
GRAY: Yeah. So she actually, she went to the doctor and got
a rape kit done and right after coming out of that, they
apprehended her and put her in a shipping container with a
bed and had 24-hour watch on her and would not let her
leave, would not let her make a phone call back to the
States. So finally one of the guys that was guarding her,
one of the employees loaned her his cell phone and she
called her dad back home in Houston and, you know, she said,
Dad, I've been raped; I don't know what to do; I'm in a
container, they are holding me here, I'm not able to leave,
I'm a prisoner. He immediately, of course, went nuts as any
dad would and contacted his congressman who happens to be
Ted Poe.
GLENN: Great guy, one of the -- yeah, I've got to tell you
Ted Poe is one of the best guys in congress. You want
justice, you can go to Ted Poe. You want to know a straight
-- you want to know the straight story, you go to Ted Poe. I
like Ted.
GRAY: We were kind of marveling. Any story that is really
relevant and critically important to the United States right
now, Ted Poe is kind of on the leading edge on and he's
there on this one. And so we had him on our show today and
we asked him about whether or not, you know, I mean, are the
facts, do they seem to be real? Does her story pan out.
GLENN: Yeah, the only thing that concerns me, and I'm -- you
know, I don't want to judge her because it seems like
everybody involved backs her up. But the only thing that
concerns me is she did sell the rights to her story to a
movie company.
GRAY: She did. She sold the screenplay, but that wasn't
until I think September of this year, August or September or
something. And so she had waited. I mean, what we thought, I
knew the story happened a long time ago because Halliburton
and KBR haven't been together. They divested. They divested
a while ago. It's been six, eight months. So I knew it was
quite a while ago. So I asked Ted Poe about it and he said,
oh, yeah, this happened two and a half years ago. And we
were shocked that in two and a half years, there's been no
arrest, there's been no investigation apparently.
GLENN: Wait, wait, wait. No investigation, no investigation?
GRAY: He went to the State Department, he went to -- and
since they couldn't get anything done with the State
Department, they went to the Justice Department and nobody's
done anything. If they have, Ted Poe said they certainly
haven't made him or her family aware of it. There's been
seemingly apparently absolutely no movement on this case in
two years. Now she has sold it off to the screenplay. That
is kind of a red flag, I agree, but she waited two years. I
mean, in fairness it was over two years before she told her
story and before she went to the media.
GLENN: I have to tell you, Dan, let's get Ted Poe on
tomorrow's broadcast and let's have him tell this at a whole
story before I rush to judgment here. But this plays right
in to me, at least, with Gonzales, with Johnny Sutton. I
mean, I'm not saying that he was involved in this. I'm just
saying it is that culture of corruption. There is, again --
and look what it comes down to. Big business. And cronies,
friends. It's bad news. It is bad news. When you've got the
United States government unwilling to look at something -- I
mean, these were all Americans are right? The ones who raped
her, were they Americans?
GRAY: We don't even know that. We don't know that part of
the story, whether they were Iraqis or Americans. My
suspicion is they were Americans, which is why this is being
kind of covered up so strongly.
GLENN: I've got to tell you if they were -- well, I don't
care who they were, but if they're Americans, they should be
in jail for the rest of their lives.
GRAY: Absolutely.
GLENN: And anyone involved in the coverup, and I mean the
President as well, in jail for the rest of their lives.
GRAY: Nobody wakes up in the morning thinking, I can't trust
my government, I can't trust the Justice Department, I can't
trust the State Department. Nobody wants to wake up in the
morning with that thought in their head. So when you come to
the realization that there's a real issue of trust there,
there's a real problem, it's really hard to face. And that's
why it's so important to have a guy like Ted Poe who's
willing to go out there on a limb for us.
GLENN: She said, I woke the next morning in the barracks and
I found my naked body battered and bruised. I was still
groggy from whatever had been put in my drink. I was
bleeding from my legs and my breasts were severely
disfigured. I found out later my attackers tore my pectoral
muscles due to the brutality of the attack. One of the men
who raped me was brazen enough to be lying at the bottom of
the bunk of my assigned bunk bed. After getting to the
clinic and having a rape kit performed and pictures taken of
my bruising, I was locked in a container with no food, no
way to call my parents and I was placed under armed guard by
Halliburton. I didn't have access to soap, toiletries, a
toothbrush or any of my belongings. I was unable to leave,
therefore I was imprisoned. After some time one of the
guards allowed me to use his cell phone out of sympathy. I
called my father back in Houston who quickly contacted
Congressman Ted Poe who then initiated a congressional
inquiry out of Baghdad. At this point I was still in a state
of shock, severely traumatized and I was scared more my
life. They said to her, "You'll never work again, you'll
never come back to Baghdad, you'll never come back to work
for Halliburton." Are you kidding me, you'll never come back
to work for Halliburton? Wait a minute. Your employees that
did this to me, I don't think I want to work for
Halliburton. What kind of threat is that? That one kind of
stuck out to me.
GRAY: The whole thing is mind boggling. To think that this
could happen. I mean, I don't care if it's an American
citizen or an Iraqi citizen. The problem is here, and we've
talked about it before, there seems to be more justice for
noncitizens than citizens of this country who are abiding by
the law, who are doing good things, rebuilding a country or
over there defending the country.
GLENN: We've lost the sense of right and wrong.
GRAY: Yes, absolutely.
GLENN: We've lost the sense of right and wrong. This is what
Romney was talking about last week. I had a call on it.
Said, you know, without a religious and moral country, you
cannot have freedom without religion. You cannot have
religion without freedom. This is part of it. When you have
divorced yourself from God, when you become a country that
says, no, God's not important to us, there is no absolutely
right and wrong, God didn't send down rules that we can all
understand, just the basic Ten Commandments, that we are
going to be held responsible, that we have to serve our
fellow man. When you divorced yourself from this -- and
these aren't my words. These are the words of the founding
fathers. You lose your way. There's no way to do it. There's
no way to hold the center and, you know, you wonder why
we're having shootings in Colorado. You wonder why we're
having shootings in Omaha. You wonder why this kind of stuff
is going on because no one has their core. No one has
something bigger than them. It's all about business or power
and that's going to be the end of us.
