GLENN: I had a guy
come up to me in a trench coat this weekend, a black trench
coat as I was signing autographs, and he said, -- I said
"Merry Christmas, thank you so much for standing in line for
the book. What time did you get here?" "We will kill all the
traitors." "Okay, all righty then. Thank you so much. It has
been a delight. Wish we could spend more time than this, but
sorry."
There is a movement in America, and I have been warning
against it, and the only thing that's going to stop it is to
not be a Republican, not be a Democrat but be an American.
Care more about the country. Care more about the whole
picture than just your picture. Care more about the country
than the political office, than if it's a donkey or an
elephant. Care more about the character of the individual.
Make sure they understand the Constitution. Make sure they
understand who they answer to. Make sure they understand
they are not the ones with power; we are, We the People.
When that happens, when you get people around you to open up
their eyes and see the truth, we are much more fragile today
than we were on September 11th, and these extremist groups
will do what the devil does and that is take facts with the
own agenda and before you know it, you don't know what the
truth is. And I told you two years ago in a speech with
Condoleezza Rice, she used the phrase "We're feeling now the
birth pangs," and I believe the birth pang, I told you at
that time that was significant language. I'm telling you
that again. It may be just because of things that I have
witnessed in the last couple of weeks. Video. Some of the
things I have seen the last couple of weeks, and maybe I'm
too close to it but I don't think I am. I think the birth
pangs are speeding up and I think that this election period
is going to be dangerous and I think this election period is
not going to be like anything else you've ever seen. We've
seen the hate ratcheted up. The hate was there in 2000 and
it got -- it was there in '96 and then it was ratcheted up
for 2000 and in 2004 it was even worse, and 2008 I think is
going to be one for the record books. And the thing that we
must do is tether ourselves together because there's
strength in numbers, and you've got to make the decision
right now that you are not going to be sucked in by anybody
else's agenda. You are not going to -- you are going to look
for the truth. As long as you look for the truth and you
don't care whose truth it is, you will find it, as long as
you're responsible, as long as you just don't look on the
Internet and that's it, as long as you don't just read one
book and that's it. I invite you, don't read just my book.
You want to know about the truth on global warming? You want
to know about the truth on what's happening on the border?
You want to know about the truth on marriage or whatever?
Don't just read my book. Take my book and then go and search
for yourself and find someone who disagrees with me and look
where the lines intersect, for where the lines intersect,
there is where you will find truth. When you find somebody
-- I have the library of a serial killer, I really do.
Because I buy books -- I listen to people who are as diverse
as possible. When I talk about the economy, I talk to people
who say have everything in gold. Sell your house, have
everything in gold and bury it in the backyard; and I listen
to people who say, absolutely nothing to worry about, this
is one of the smallest blips in all of history; this is the
greatest economy ever known to man and it will be for the
next 150 years. I listen to both of them. And when they tell
me about the economy, when they start to talk, their lines
will at some point intersect and there I know is truth. But
you've got to do your homework yourself and you've got to
pass it on to your friends, and I think we're in for a rough
ride this political season because I think they are going to
do everything they can to separate us. I think they are
going to do everything they can to disenfranchise us even
more because that's the way they think they can hold onto
power because that's what research shows, and people don't
listen to their guts. People listen to research. They listen
to polling numbers, and my gut is telling me you've got to
pay attention. Not you. You already have been. Got to get
your friends, you've got to grab onto them, you've got to
grab those Democrats that know you. If you're a
conservative, they're a liberal, that know you. And you can
agree on so much. You've got to talk to them and you've got
to find out your common ground so they know that we don't
hate each other, that we're not evil people.
