GLENN BECK PROGRAM
BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

GLENN: All right, let's go to the phones now. Let's go to Phil in Tampa. Hi, Phil.

CALLER: Hi. You are an absolute expert at creating strawmen and then attacking them. This is a technique that goes all the way back to Father Claghorn from the 1930s who had a radio show --

GLENN: Spare me the history lesson. Make your point.

Glenn Beck's History of Illegal Immigration

CALLER: My point is what you are not doing is telling the people the truth.

GLENN: Okay.

CALLER: This whole thing with immigration started with your prophet and mentor Ronald Reagan when he signed the Simpson-Mazzoli Act which gave unlimited amnesty to five million people from South America, Central America.

GLENN: And I've said that on the air.

CALLER: And you haven't said it enough, pal.

GLENN: Excuse me, pal. Excuse me, Phil. Here's the thing. It didn't start with Ronald Reagan because I can show you the headlines from the New York Times in the 1800s that say that we're having a problem with illegal immigration, et cetera, et cetera. So I mean, this has been going on forever. However, I have said over and over and over again, you choose to hear what you want to hear, that this thing is going on and on and on and has happened with Ronald Reagan and we should have learned our lesson back in the 1980s but then we failed to learn it again in 1996 and we're still failing to learn it now in 2006 and 2007. So what else, what else do you have here?

CALLER: Okay, all right. So you admit that Ronald Reagan let the cat out of the bag, so to speak.

GLENN: No, sir, I'm telling you now it's been happening for 100 years before Ronald Reagan.

CALLER: I lived 27 years in California.

GLENN: Yeah.

CALLER: And when Ronald Reagan --

GLENN: I get it.

CALLER: What?

GLENN: I get it. You don't like Reagan. I got it.

CALLER: Okay. Secondly, what did George Bush the First do about illegal immigration?

GLENN: Do you think I'm holding George Bush up?

CALLER: Nothing. He did nothing.

GLENN: Phil, I just want to ask you this. Why are you so filled with hate?

CALLER: Can I give you the genesis of the --

GLENN: No, sir. I want to know why you are so filled with hatred. Why are you screaming at me? Because we agree.

CALLER: Because you are a $25 million Demagogue going.

GLENN: It's $50 million, but --

CALLER: Oh, 50?

GLENN: Yeah.

CALLER: Okay.

GLENN: So who, Phil, is telling you that I disagree with you? Ronald Reagan, blew it. George H. W. Bush, blew it. Bill Clinton, blew it. George W. Bush, blew it. Tell me where do we disagree?

CALLER: I'll tell you where. I lived in California.

GLENN: That's good. I got that.

CALLER: And I remember when Clinton got elected and I know that he is the only one out of all these people that dramatically increased the border patrol. I lived in San Juan Capistrano.

GLENN: All right. So who is -- oh, that's beautiful, especially this time of year. Who is being partisan then, Phil? You or me?

CALLER: I disagree with you.

GLENN: No, who's being partisan? You or me.

CALLER: Let me tell you -- I'm telling you history. I'm not talking partisanship.

GLENN: Yes, you are, Phil. I've already got the history. I've explained the history on this program before. We've got the history. I'm the only one on illegal immigration that is blaming both sides. You will only blame one. But Phil, just so we have the history of illegal immigration, we'll play it for you, coming up.
