GLENN: Just a real
quick update on the fire. You know, I'd like to -- could we
play the -- could we play the interview with "What's her
name," Claire Shipman from ABC with Schwarzenegger
yesterday. This is where -- she's with ABC now? This is
where you want to have a movie star being your leader.
Listen to this interview yesterday. Do you have it?
SHIPMAN: So you think the comparison to Katrina that
everybody's making in the back of their minds these days is
a good one? In terms of state and federal? Arnold
Schwarzenegger all you have to do is look around here and
see how happy people are here. No one is screaming. No one
is complaining about anything.
SHIPMAN: Well, you say everybody is working together but you
have heard there's been some complaints from officials, for
example, in Orange County who said if we only had more
resources earlier, more planes, more firefighting resources,
we might have been able to head off this fire that's
ravaging Orange County right now.
SCHWARZENEGGER: Everybody's complaining about the planes,
just wants to complain because that's a bunch of nonsense.
The fact is we have all the planes in the world here. We
have 90 air crafts here and they can't fly because of the
wind situation.
SHIPMAN: At one point he even employed a heavy weight grip
to make his case.
SHIPMAN: The point is you have to be ready to fly.
SCHWARZENEGGER: Trust me you are looking for a mistake and
you won't find it. As much as you hate it, it's good news,
trust me, okay?
GLENN: You know what? I think they do. I think they do
because here's where the media -- now, the media has a
story, the fires, and they have -- what you have to
understand is the ratings. The ratings for these fires have
been outrageous on television. If you've been doing live
fire stuff, boy, people are just flocking to the television
to watch. So it's like heroin. Now the media organizations
have their fix and they don't want to go through
withdrawals. You are going to start -- now we're going into
the finger pointing place. As much as they say, you know,
no, we want the good news, no, they don't. No, they don't.
They don't want good news. They want to -- and let me ask
you this: I think this story will go away if there's no
George Bush evil conservative. You know, even around
Schwarzenegger. If Arnold Schwarzenegger hasn't done
anything -- if this just turns out to be mismanagement, A,
arson, and B, mismanagement by the environmental wing and,
you know, our forest service and everything else, if it's
just that, this story will go away. But if there's any way
to trap FEMA, to, you know, trap George Bush, to show how
the evil conservatives stopped something through global
warming, whatever, the story will go on and on and on and on
and on. But just, I mean, it's a human tragedy and I don't
know about you, but I look at the news and I see what's
going on over in California and I think, here's a state that
was prepared, and it's not easy for me to tip my hat to
California and say, wow, looks like you had it down. Looks
like they're doing a great job, at least in the response. I
mean, you know, we could go -- we could go on and on and on
about how this could have been prevented. Well, not all of
it, but it didn't have to be this bad. It could go on and on
about that. You want to save the kangaroo rat. No, I mean,
you do. So God forbid you get rid of any of that dry brush
because that kangaroo rat, the planet cannot live without.
