What to do about Liars!

Here’s the thing that bothers me most
about the Iraq situation. Does anyone think these people are telling
the truth? It’s almost comical how their leadership will say
anything, anything without regard to the truth. It’s like lying is a
part of their religious make up. They remind me of the little boy
who is standing there with white frosting on his face and swears he
did not touch the cake.
You say all of the UN inspectors are really working for the CIA or
Massad, the Israeli intelligence agency? Then prove it! You say the
US is only interested in taking control of the oil fields in Iraq?
Then prove it! We didn’t take over Kuwait when we had the chance!
You say Bush is controlling the UN? Then prove it! You say Israel
was behind the World Trade Center disaster, then prove it? You claim
all we want to do is destroy the Muslim faith, so why haven’t we
done that in our own country? And why have we fought in 12 conflicts
since the mid 80’s on the side of Muslims?
Oh, it’s just a matter of interpretation you say. Perhaps we just
don’t understand their mindset or there are some cultural
differences that create these misunderstandings. Baloney! That’s
what these lairs want you to believe. If you just leave us alone we
promise we won’t hurt anyone. Sorry, that’s another lie, with the
proof being the bodies of hundreds of Kurds killed by chemical
warfare just before the Persian Gulf War. Then they say, “Look at
our elections. People are free in this country and they choose to be
ruled by Saddam Hussein… 99.6 percent voted for their beloved
leader.” Sure, they are so free we have the personal testimony of
hundreds of refuges who tell tales of torture and beatings and
public executions and burnings. We hear of women being dragged into
the streets and beheaded in front of their children. These are
facts, not trumped up baseless allegations. And yet, their foreign
minister insists these stories are the product of the Bush
Administration and the British Press.
And now, with over 12-thousand pages of documentation claiming they
have no weapons of mass destruction in our hands we are supposed to
rest the security of the world on their truthfulness. Do you believe
them? Do you believe they have no nuclear materials or chemical
weapons or deadly biological agents? Even their scientists have
publicly admitted they are in the process of developing those kinds
of weapons. Are all the stories we’ve heard from Soviet intelligence
on the sale of smallpox strains to Iraq just fancy tales?
I’m not willing to risk the lives of my children and their children
on people who have a proven track recording of lying at every
occasion. Do you want a nuclear suitcase delivered to downtown
Chicago or Manhattan two or three years from now? Do you trust
people who are pledged in their hatred to destroy us? I don’t. I
wish I could muster up a little understanding or patience or
sympathy for Saddam Hussein. But he is what he is, and Saddam is the
most brutal dictator alive in the world today.
The question then becomes what do we do about it? I don’t want to go
to war and kill innocent people. I have two sons of military age and
I do not want them to be drafted. I wish we could put up a huge
fence around this nation and just let the rest of the world spin off
into madness.
So here is what I ask. Mr. President: If you can prove to me, after
reviewing all of the documents that Iraq has supplied, that Saddam
Hussein is a real threat to the rest of the world then I will
support military action. If he truly has developed weapons of mass
destruction or is hiding other dangers weapons then I agree he can’t
be trusted. I heard one of your senior advisors admit that so far,
we do not have a smoking gun, that circumstantial evidence is strong
and compelling. I don’t think you would lie or try to take political
advantage of this most difficult situation. I trust you because I
trust our form of government.
But I think I need to see more evidence. If our sons and daughters
are going to shed their blood in a foreign land I want it to be for
the truth; unshakeable, undeniable. If we can catch Saddam in that
lie with proof, either from the weapons inspectors or solid, hard,
incontrovertible pictures or other physical materials, my fears of
going to war will be calmed. I know that’s what you are trying to
do. I only pray, Mr. President, you have the patience to let Saddam
hang himself. We all know that he will. Liars always end up getting
caught in their own traps or end up being devoured by their own
kind. Dear God let that be the case here!
